GWM P-Series Limited: Capable Off-Roading Beast (But With a Few Quirks)

Hey guys, if you’re into bakkies (pickup trucks), check out the GWM P-Series Limited! I took this thing on an adventure, and let me tell you, it’s got power, features, and some serious off-road chops. But there’s a catch..

First Impressions

Right away, I love the engine bay gas struts – the hood stays open without you holding it! This P Series has a 2-liter turbo diesel engine, so I immediately took it for a Galitos drive-thru run here in Mpumalanga. The 360° camera rocks, and makes your life easy! Super clear, making it easy to squeeze this big truck through tight spots.

The Drive: Power, Fuel, and THAT Suspension

Let’s be honest, 120 kilowatts of power isn’t a ton, and the turbo lag is real. You’ll feel the delay when hitting the gas. I averaged about 10.7 liters per 100 KMs fuel consumption, a bit more than the claimed 9.5. So when it comes to the engine I think our fellow Chinese mates can learn one or two things from Ford and Toyota.

Where the P-Series Limited shines is in safety features:

  • 7 airbags!
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Forward Collision Warning and Auto Emergency Braking
  • Lane Departure Warning, Lane Center Keeping (this one can be annoying, especially for drivers that want to dictate how the car should behave)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (perfect for long trips)

The Off-Roader

This Limited model is built for adventures! Check out these features:

  • Snorkel (for water crossings)
  • Black roof rails, side steps, and blackout grille
  • All-terrain Cooper tires and 18-inch black alloys
  • Winch with a manual (in case you get stuck)
  • Selectable driving modes: sand, snow, mud, and more

But here’s the thing: The suspension is HARSH. Bumps, speed humps, potholes – you’ll feel them ALL. GWM, please fix this!

Cool Features (and a Weird One)

  • Off-road Cruise Control: Maintains a low, steady speed.
  • Trail Turn Assist: Makes turning in tight spots easier.
  • Front and Rear Diff Locks: Serious off-roading stuff.
  • Touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (but needs a cable).
  • Wireless charging, proper gear lever, comfy seats…
  • BUT those cup holders! One’s huge, one’s tiny. What were they thinking?

Interior Vibes

The inside feels premium. Leather-wrapped steering wheel, nice seats (heated, even!), and even quilted leather on the doors. The back seat is roomier than many other bakkies, with air vents, a charging port, and armrest.

The Price Tag

The GWM P-Series LTD 4×4 goes for R694,000. Here’s a rough estimate of monthly costs:

  • Payment: R13,585 (6 years, 12% interest)
  • Diesel: About R1,816 for a full tank.
  • Insurance: Could be around R2,300.
  • Total: Roughly R17,702 a month

You do get peace of mind with a 5-year/100,000-kilometer service plan and warranty!

Final Thoughts”

I’m calling this bakkie “Pay” for short. It’s got style, a super-easy-to-use tailgate, high sports bar (for a bit more security), and it’s an off-road beast. If you can handle the bumpy ride, this could be your next adventure machine!
