The Land Rover Defender 130: Road Trip Beast with Space for the Whole Clan!

Hey guys, if you love big, capable SUVs, get ready for the Land Rover Defender 130. Think of the regular Defender, but stretched out for even more space! I took this awesome Defender 130 on a road trip, and let me tell you, it was a fantastic trip.

The Road Trip Begins

As soon as I got this car, all I could think was “ROAD TRIP!”. So that’s exactly what I did. And within minutes of hitting the highway, I was loving it. Everything feels correct with the ride. No complaints at all.

Power Under the Hood

This beast has a 3-liter turbo diesel engine. It’s an inline-6 (that means the cylinders are in a line), packing 221 kilowatts of power and 650 Newton-meters of torque. Let me translate: This thing HAULS. It pulls hard and just keeps on going, perfect for those long drives! Oh, and it also averaged a pretty decent 11.8 liters per 100 kilometers during my trip. Not bad for a massive SUV.

Feature Time

  • Comfort & Convenience Pack: This optional extra is worth it! It adds cupholders, a wireless charger, and the coolest part: A FRIDGE in the center console.
  • Air Quality Sensor: When we went to grab food, the Defender’s sensor showed the air quality in the city was…not great. But hey, the Defender’s air purification system came to the rescue!
  • 360 View Cameras: Got a 10 out of 10 from me. These made squeezing into tight spots a breeze.

This Thing is Practical AF

Remember how I said this Defender is stretched? It’s an 8-seater! That means you and seven friends can chill in total comfort.

  • Third Row: Surprisingly roomy, even has its own sunroof!
  • Second Row: Tons of legroom, adjustable seats, climate control, USB ports… what more could you want?
  • Boot Space: Massive. Even with all the seats up, there’s still room for luggage. If you need more, fold those rear seats down.

Exploring Town & Some Delicious Food

We took a drive into the nearby town, cruising in comfort thanks to the heads-up display. Got some amazing BBQ and enjoyed a little small-town sightseeing in this big SUV. Speaking of tackling terrain…

Air Suspension for the Win

The Defender is pretty capable off-road, even though I didn’t go rock crawling. It has all-terrain tires and air suspension. That means you can set the ride height lower for easy access, normal for cruising, or higher for rougher stuff. Cool, right?

The Interior Deets

Here’s a quick information about the interior:

  • Big Screens: Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, easy climate controls.
  • Proper Gear Lever: Feels great.
  • Storage: Everywhere, including that center console fridge.
  • Digital Dash: Super clear.

Price Talk

Defenders are super customizable, so I’ll give you the BASE price:

  • Price: R2,193,500
  • Monthly Payment: Roughly R41,023 over 6 years (12% interest).
  • Fuel: A full diesel tank will set you back around R2,134.
  • Insurance: Maybe around R5,500 (this can vary).
  • Total Monthly Cost: This could be around R48,871.
  • Peace of Mind: 5-year/100,000 km maintenance plan and warranty included.
